How to Take Better Photos, a video tutorial for Cropped! featuring Gillian Crane

I recently participated in a video tutorial for VirtueRadioNetwork.com’s scrapbooking video series, Cropped! on how to take better photos. I was really nervous about being in front of the camera, but the producer was fabulous and made me feel right at home. You can watch the video below.





Here’s some of the photos I took for the video. As you can see, it definitely helps if you’re working with a charismatic, photogenic family! They’re a family of six, with another on the way.

Code Green Fitness – Ryan Kollock, Mr. Zero Body Fat, portraiture by Gillian Crane

I photographed Ryan Kollock’s bootcamp last Saturday at the high school in Laguna Beach, they started off with a 1-mile run around the track to “warm up”! That was just the beginning of the fun – they ran the bleachers,  sprinted and lunged nonstop for an hour.  I was glad I was only taking the pictures!! Even that was a workout, I was sweating just to keep up with them.

He and his wife Theresa offer bootcamps Monday, Wednesdays, Fridays at 9:15 am and Saturdays at 8:30am. You can find Ryan here:

Mack’s learning how to play “hocksotch”……no…..”hopsotch”…… no……”hopsich”……not sure exactly what he calls it. It’s so cool to watch him dance across the squares, his skinny little arms and legs flapping and fluttering in excitement. my little hummingbird. These pictures don’t do the dance justice, I need to get the video camera out. He’s sleeping in those pajamas now, all dirty and dusty with chalk and asphalt.  I had to bribe him for a little eye contact, so worth it…… it really is a sweet life.

sneak peek: jackson, family photography by Gillian Crane

This is jackson, he’s six. A sweet, smiley little boy with Krabbe’s Disease. He and his family were in town on vacation. We met to take photos at the beach in Laguna.

Jackson’s dad ran him up and down the beach chasing the waves. It was so cool to watch. I said to him “wow, that’s an aerobic workout!”, to which he replied “well, I am his legs”. I’m so glad i got to spend some time with this fabulous family. Every day is a gift.
